How To Install RAM on a 4 Slot Motherboard
Super User is more info question and answer site for computer enthusiasts and power users.
Join them; it only takes a minute: First of all, I have the Asus M4A87D-M PRO motherboard.
And I have now two identical Apacer 2GB PC-6400 CL5 800Mhz sticks installed.
I am going to buy a Transcend JetRAM 2GB PC2-6400 CL6 800Mhz stick.
How do I put all the 3 ddr2 dimms in the slots shown above so they will be stable and there won't be memory channel conflicts?
Did you go to the Asus site and download the user manual?
Did you do any research prior to posting this question?
Am I reading you correctly in that you are going to have 6GB total on a dual channel Motherboard???
If I AM reading that correctly, can I ask WHY you would do such a thing?
Splurge, get one more stick and that will also answer your question won't it?
If you cannot find that brand, then order four Transcend JetRAM 2GB PC2-6400 CL6 800Mhz.
Insert them in pairs.
If you really want to do then you can put it in any available slot.
Does not matter, and you can mix and match makes- because it is fairly generic ram, with generic timing and speeds.
Using 3 stick might cause your boot screen to beep, or moan that the ram is running half duplex, is uneven or might even show 400mhz instead 800mhz.
When you get another stick, it will go here back to normal, but make sure they are all 800mhz If you are putting in specific ram with boosted performance.
I think adding this: to my current 2x2GB apacer slots, will it work normal?
The Half speed I think Pump is referring to is that you is from the UNEVEN number of sticks.
Perhaps what you mean is that the memory will run in "Single channel mode".
This may or may not impact performance much and depends on both hardware and software.
Motherboards which support Dual-channel architecture can run two or more DDR type memory modules in dual-channel configuration.
Theoretically, dual-channel configurations double the memory bandwidth when compared to single-channel configurations though it would seem that this may result in little to no real world performance increases DIMM Socket Color Codes: Motherboards supporting dual-channel memory layouts typically have color-coded DIMM sockets.
Coloring schemes are not standardized and have opposing meanings, depending on the motherboard manufacturer's intentions and actual motherboard design.
For this reason, it is generally advised to use identical pairs of memory modules matching slot games like bingo blitz eg: 1024MBSpeed eg: PC5300CAS Latency, Number of chips and sides, etc.
A matched pair of memory modules slot games like bingo blitz usually be placed in the first bank of each channel, and a different-capacity pair of modules in the second bank.
Channel A, Bank 1 and the second in Channel B, Bank 1.

Yes i have done exactly everything you said about memtest and the problem not with the sticks it with the mb slots only one memory slot is working fine which is Dimm_A1 that is the only slot reads all my rams other slots not working bios or windows or memtest not reading them when i install them and boot on only reads 1 ram which is 8gb,
Excuse, that I interrupt you, but you could not give more information.
Hardly I can believe that.
I think, that you are mistaken. I suggest it to discuss. Write to me in PM, we will communicate.
What words... super, excellent idea
I consider, that you are not right. I am assured. Write to me in PM.
And not so happens))))
I am assured, what is it a lie.
It is a pity, that now I can not express - there is no free time. I will return - I will necessarily express the opinion on this question.
Rather useful idea
It is a pity, that now I can not express - it is compelled to leave. But I will return - I will necessarily write that I think on this question.
I apologise, but it does not approach me. Perhaps there are still variants?
You are not right. I am assured. I suggest it to discuss.
I do not understand something
You are not right. I suggest it to discuss. Write to me in PM, we will talk.
You have hit the mark. It is excellent thought. It is ready to support you.
I consider, that you are not right. I am assured. Let's discuss. Write to me in PM.
I consider, that you are not right. I am assured. I can defend the position. Write to me in PM, we will communicate.
What touching a phrase :)
Excuse, I have removed this phrase
It is a pity, that now I can not express - I am late for a meeting. But I will return - I will necessarily write that I think.
I confirm. I agree with told all above. We can communicate on this theme.
